A young Paul first visited the Lion in 1974 and met John Conteh who was training at the Lion whilst being WBC Light Heavyweight Champion. John asked Paul who his favourite boxer was at the time and he replied Muhammad Ali to which John replied what about me and laughed. This built up a friendship so much so that when Paul was unwell and hospitalised John arranged a private room at hospital and then sent the nurses flowers and chocolates as a thank you. This was the start of Paul's Lion journey.
in 1984 Paul first started working at the Lion as Club Secretary and 11 years later in 1995 he took over as club matchmaker after Danny Linger stepped down. Paul worked closely with his Uncle and club Chairman Alan Parry for many years who became ill in May 2022 and stepped down and Paul was appointed Chairman of the club.
Paul's ambitions for the Lion Boxing Academy is to produce National Champions to put this historic club back on the map as a club people talk about and want to be a part of.
